Wood Dale woman killed in Des Plaines crash

Des Plaines police are investigating a fatal accident that killed a 57-year-old Wood Dale woman Friday morning. The victim, Gabriele Barnes, was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi traveling eastbound on Touhy Avenue when the vehicle went off the roadway for unknown reasons, police said.

The vehicle came to a halt when it struck a concrete barrier. Des Plaines fire personnel extricated the victim from the vehicle and transported her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:54 a.m. The accident was not weather related and so far no witnesses have come forward, police said.

Authorities are trying to determine through family members whether the victim had a medical condition that may have caused the crash. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning, a Cook County medical examiner’s office spokesman said.
