Poll Vault: Has the norovirus struck in your household?

As my colleague Madhu Krishnamurthy has written recently, the norovirus is circulating through the suburbs. More than 100 customers fell ill after eating at a restaurant in Wheeling.

The sickness has struck in Schaumburg as well. My husband and I can attest to that.

To borrow from Krishnamurthy's report: Norovirus is spread from person to person or by handling contaminated items or eating contaminated food. Symptoms resemble what is commonly described as “stomach flu” — diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, and abdominal cramps. Headaches, fatigue, a low fever and dehydration also can accompany the illness.

The DuPage County Health Department has a fact sheet online with tips on how to protect yourself and others from the virus, but most importantly, please remember to wash your hands before and after you prepare food and after you use the bathroom.

Has anyone in your household been stricken with the norovirus this winter? How are you coping?
