High fives for Stevenson starters

Stevenson's five earned high fives.

Patriots girls basketball coach Tom Dineen used only five players against visiting Zion-Benton on Thursday night, but his starters alone were enough to pull out a 44-38 win in a North Suburban Lake Division showdown.

Kari Moffat sank 12 of 16 free throws and finished with a season-high 18 points to lead Stevenson (17-5, 7-1), which has a two-game lead in the NSC Lake with four divisional games left. The Patriots, who have won seven in a row, visit two-time defending NSC Lake champ Libertyville on Saturday.

Katie Batman (two 3-pointers) and Taylor Buford added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Stevenson, which led 13-8 after one quarter, 25-21 at halftime and 30-27 after three.

Octavia Crump led Zion-Benton (13-6, 4-4) with 15 points. Freshman Mia Yarbrough chipped in 12 for the Zee-Bees, who lost to Stevenson for the second time this season.

Warren 34, Libertyville 33: Amanda Barger scored 10 points, and the visiting Blue Devils prevailed in the North Suburban Lake contest.

Jessica Prince added 8 points for Warren (14-8, 6-4). Alyssa Phillips and Lexi Leneau had 7 and 6, respectively.

Libertyville (15-5, 6-3), which fell 2 losses behind division-leading Stevenson, was led by Alex Haley's 12 points and Kerry Risley's 10.
