Manufacturer seeks tax break to come to Schaumburg

ACIC Group, an international manufacturer of pharmaceutical machinery and equipment, is seeking a Cook County Class 6B tax incentive to locate in a long-vacant industrial building in Schaumburg.

In addition to bringing 15 to 30 jobs to the village upfront, the move also would raise the possibility of the company locating a future research and development facility in the area, Schaumburg Economic Development Coordinator Matt Frank said Monday.

Schaumburg village trustees next week will consider recommending the request, which then would then go to the Cook County Board for final approval.

ACIC wants to move into a 29,328-square-foot building at 1128 Tower Road, part of the Schaumburg Industrial Park. The building was last occupied more than two years ago by Luczak Sales Inc., a manufacturer’s representative for commercial plumbing and heating systems products.

The new jobs ACIC hopes to bring to the village would have an average salary of $50,000, Frank said.

Cook County’s Class 6B incentive program is intended to keep the county competitive with collar counties in attracting industrial, manufacturing and warehouse operations.

The incentive works by lowering the level of assessment on a property from 25 percent to 10 percent for 10 years, effectively reducing property taxes by about half during that period. The level of assessment then gradually rises again during the 11th and 12th years of the incentive before returning to normal.

Only industrial properties that have been on the market for sale or lease for two years are eligible for the incentive.

Class 6B incentives have become increasingly popular as the economy has slowly recovered from its severe slump. During the past decade, Cook County officials have approved more than 50 such incentives in Schaumburg alone.
