Metea Valley tops Rich Central in OT

Metea Valley used a 29-point fourth quarter to force Rich Central into overtime, then outscored Rich Central 16-8 to win 96-88 at Joliet Central’s Martin Luther King Day of Hoops.

“Overall for the game we weren’t very good defensively,” said Metea coach Bob Vozza. “We were down by 10 in the middle of the fourth quarter, so it didn’t look like we would win. It took a massive scramble in the fourth quarter to get back in it.”

LaShawn Cargo, who scored 21 points and made three 3-point baskets, led that late charge. Kenny Obendorf led the Mustangs with 28 points and Ryan Solomon scored 16 before fouling out.

Metea Valley (16-1) made 31 of 36 free throws while Rich Central was 33 of 42 from the line for a combined 64-of-78 foul shots for the game.
