New traffic lights coming for two Island Lake intersections

Two key Island Lake intersections will get new traffic signals as part of a deal struck with the Illinois Department of Transportation, officials confirmed Friday.

The traffic lights on Route 176 and Roberts and River roads will be upgraded with LED modules, which advocates say are brighter and last longer than traditional bulbs.

Countdown signals for pedestrians and a new power supply for the equipment will be installed, too.

The project will cost an estimated $64,400, but nearly all of that will be covered by IDOT. Lake County will be responsible for $1,610 and the village will pay about $633, according to the agreement.

The village board approved the deal Thursday with a 4-0 vote. Trustees Laurie Rabattini and Donna O’Malley were absent.

IDOT will oversee the project, according to the agreement. A timetable was not included in the document.
