Charges: Addison man arrested with pot, coke, cash

An Addison man accused of possessing more than four pounds of cocaine and about two pounds of marijuana was ordered held Friday on $200,000 bail.

Fernando Zambrano, 28, was arrested following a brief foot chase after police searched his home on the 600 block of Sable Drive, authorities said.

Zambrano sold cocaine to undercover Addison officers on two occasions in July and September, DuPage County Prosecutor Ken Tatarelis said in court. On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at the defendant's home.

Tatarelis said Zambrano fled and was arrested a short distance away. The suspect was found with $16,000 and a backpack containing more than two pounds of cocaine, he said.

Inside Zambrano's home, police recovered about two pounds of marijuana, $27,000 in cash and drug-packaging materials, Tatarelis said.

Judge Elizabeth Sexton set bail at $200,000 for Zambrano, who Tatarelis said served prison time on drug convictions twice since 2002.

Zambrano was charged with several felony drug offenses. He faces up to 60 years if convicted of the most serious charge.

Sexton ordered the defendant to prove that any bond money he might post comes from a legitimate source and not from ill-gotten gains.
