Dogs are mean only if they’re provoked

This is in response to Donald Kuntz’s letter titled “Dogs are not every man’s best friend.” Animals, in general, can detect something that no human can, and that is your feelings about them. It’s far and few between that dogs attack for no apparent reason. Chances are, if you were bitten, the dog had a good reason for doing it. It is not in a dog’s nature to be mean unless provoked. However that may be, it is a natural instinct for them to protect and defend themselves if they feel threatened.

It’s unfortunate you’ve never experienced the unconditional love of a dog. Perhaps you should consider donating some free time to PAWS. It could change your mind.
