History shows Dems as real warmongers
Columnist Richard Cohen confuses wartime propaganda with real history. In his effort to paint Republican Ron Paul as a dangerous candidate for president, Cohen calls him an ‘isolationist’ and claims that American isolationism led to World War II and would have allowed Nazi Germany to conquer Great Britain and the rest of the world.
The histories which I have read argued that Adolf Hitler admired the British and had no interest in attacking Britain. Britain declared war on Germany, because the Nazis (and the Communists) attacked Poland. Poland had a treaty with both France and England which promised a military response in case of a German attack. But none of this had anything to do with the U.S.
If American isolationism had prevailed, it would have saved 416,800 military lives. Similarly, if the natural American repugnance for war had prevailed during Democrat President’s Woodrow Wilson’s term, it would have saved 116,708 military lives.
Cohen describes Paul’s foreign policy as “drained of morality.” Rather, the evidence clearly shows that Cohen’s Democratic heroes, Wilson and FDR, surreptitiously pushed a disastrous and immoral foreign policy. FDR plainly promised he would never send American young men to war while behind the scenes he schemed to accomplish just that.
Cohen errs when he asserts that Americans are weary of war, especially the one in Iraq “which served no purpose.” Americans just do not want war. But Democrats do, as the histories of both Wilson and FDR show. On the other hand, the war in Iraq did serve a purpose. It contributed to the continued security of Israel,
So, no, Ron Paul is not dangerous. The war party, the Democratic Party, is dangerous.
