Schaumburg fire victim still in critical condition

An 85-year-old Schaumburg woman remained in critical but stable condition Monday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, two days after suffering potentially life-threatening injuries in a fire in her apartment bedroom.

The fire was reported at 5:45 a.m. Saturday on the fourth floor of the seven-story building at 1234 Valley Lake Drive. The woman, who suffered burns to her chest, first was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates before being transferred to the burn center at Loyola University Medical Center.

There were no other injuries in the blaze, which was contained to to the woman’s apartment, other than some smoke damage to the hallway outside.
