Sears jobs promise comes up empty

So let me get this straight: Our delusional governor (and yes I voted for him too) and out-of-touch state elected officials voted to give Sears a big tax break knowing full well that over the course of the last year Sears had laid off approximately 1,600 people in the Hoffman Estates office so as to keep their head count low, all to save approximately 6,000 stated jobs which don't really exist there because the head count is already below 5,000.

Now Sears announces they are closing 100 to 120 stores nationwide. Gee, should that come as a surprise to anyone? Of course not.

Let's be conservative and say each store employs anywhere from 20 to 50 full- and part-time employees. That means the closing could account for between 2,000 and 5,000 people getting laid off.

Good for Sears. They get the tax break and lay people off anyway. So much for saving jobs. And you can't tell me it hasn't been planned for months while our General Assembly negotiated the tax break deal we all are going to pay for over the next 10 years.

Shame on Sears and shame on us for continuing to elect people who lack business sense and continue to take our money.
