How ‘bout term limits without pensions?

My hat goes off to Richard Schutt for his letter to the editor entitled “One more reason for term limits.” He speaks the truth, that many of our elected officials in Washington are doing everything in their power to make President Obama look bad in order to oust him from office. But I think, we the people, are smart enough to realize what is going on and not let that influence our good judgment.

I would like to consider taking term limits to the next level, term limits without a pension. In the real world of yesterday one had to work 20 to 30 years for a pension. In the past, people ran for office because they wanted to serve the people of this country. Many were loyal, honest and wanted only to work toward the common good. I say we resurrect some principles of old: honor, integrity, ethics, tolerance, fairness and caring.

Let us all make a New Year’s resolution to become more involved, to learn about the issues through non partisan channels. Then when November 2012 comes we can vote our conscience as well as our hearts.
