District 214 names new human resources superintendent

Northwest Suburban High School District 214 has appointed a new associate superintendent for human resources to replace Randy Hawley, who plans to retire at the end of the school year.

Todd M. Colvin, currently the associate superintendent for administrative services at Oswego Community Unit School District 308, will replace Hawley beginning July 1.

Colvin has worked more than 20 years in education, starting as a social studies teacher at Joliet West and Lincoln-Way Central high schools before becoming an administrator at Lockport Township High School in 1993. He has been in Oswego for the past 17 years, holding positions including assistant principal and principal at Oswego High School.

“We are very excited to have Colvin join the District 214 team,” Superintendent Dave Schuler said. “The wealth of experience he brings to our school district will benefit students, staff and the community.”

School board member Alva Kreutzer, who was a part of the selection committee that chose Colvin, said she was impressed by his knowledge of administration and expects him to fit in nicely at District 214.

Colvin has a bachelor’s degree in communications and secondary education from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in education administration from Governors State University. He serves on the board of governors for Kendall County Special Education Cooperative and in 2010 was awarded the Leader of the Year award from District 308.

District 214 is conducting a separate search to replace Associate Superintendent for Student Services Johnnie Thomas, who recently was named superintendent of Crystal Lake High School District 155, said Venetia Miles, director of community relations for the district.
