Fox Lake village clerk resigns

Fox Lake is seeking a new village clerk after Samantha Weeks officially resigned her position at the start of the new year, officials said.

Mayor Ed Bender said Weeks had some personal issues crop up in her life in the past year, and she cited those in a letter to the board as the reason for resigning.

He would not discuss the issues, but said he wished the former clerk the best in her future endeavors.

“She really was good for the village,” Bender said.

Weeks was not available for comment.

She was officially appointed as village clerk in 2005, then won her first election for the seat in 2007. She was re-elected to the position in 2009.

Bender said he will recommend and the board will vote to appoint someone to the position as quickly as possible. The appointee will serve in that position until the 2013 election.

Candidates for the position must be current village residents who have lived in Fox Lake for at least one year, he said. The person also must be a registered voter, and cannot be in arrears of taxes or in debt to the village.

He said the part-time position pays $3,500 annually.

“We posted the position a couple of days ago and have already received three responses,” he said. “I haven’t talked to the candidates yet.”

People who have questions about the position or want to express interest in it should send an email of interest to Bender at bendere@foxlake.org.
