Small fire damages Woodfield changing room
A small fire inside a changing room at Woodfield Mall set off the building’s fire alarms Monday night and led to a partial evacuation, according to Schaumburg fire officials.
The fire started when a light fixture inside a changing room at JCPenny overheated and melted some plastic materials at about 6:20 p.m., said Schaumburg Fire Capt. Frank Chambers.
The fire spread to carpeting in the room as well as baseboards and was discovered by store employees before it was able to spread, Chambers said.
Firefighters arriving at the scene extinguished the flames quickly and contained the fire to one changing room.
Chambers said the fire caused minor damage, but the mall was not fully evacuated.
No one was injured during the fire.
