Submitted by Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra

Instrumental music students, with the help of their teachers, are encouraged to submit applications for the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s annual Arthur D. Montzka Young Artist’s Concerto Competition.

This competition was begun by Art Montzka in 1986 and has enjoyed a proud tradition of featuring some of Northern Illinois’ finest young artists. The ADM concert, featuring the winner(s) of this annual competition, has become a highlight of the year for the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. The competition is open to instrumentalists who are 18 years of age and younger as of Jan. 2, 2012 and who are residents of Illinois.

The winner of the competition will perform with the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Northern Illinois University Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in DeKalb. The winner of the competition will receive $350 for the performance.

Repertoire requirements are: one or more movements of a solo concerto or an appropriate one-movement composition with orchestral accompaniment and the total performance time that does not exceed 20 minutes. Additional guidelines and the application are found on the orchestra’s website, kishorchestra.org/competitions/applications.html.
