Fire destroys barn near Elburn
Fire department officials are investigating the cause of a barn fire early Tuesday near Elburn.
The fire was reported at 2:05 a.m. by a neighbor who noticed an orange glow outside the window, at 40W020 Hughes Road, according to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Department.
The Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District put out the fire, and eight other departments assisted, either at the scene or by filling in at the district’s stations.
The red barn was a wood frame, heavy timber building, said Elburn and Countryside Fire Chief Kelly Callahan. It took them about 40 minutes to put the fire out. No one was injured.
The resident of the property told a deputy there was nothing stored in the barn that would cause a fire. A 1968 Ford Mustang convertible, an antique fire truck, another antique vehicle and a camper top were stored in the barn, according to the sheriff’s report.
