Hersey streak continues at Wheaton North

Two-time defending champion Hersey won its ninth straight game at the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North High School on Monday.

The Huskies received a career-high 18 points with 10 rebounds from Maggie Hogen en route to a 58-40 victory over Willowbrook.

The No. 3-seeded Huskies (5-7) advanced to today's 3 p.m. quarterfinal against unseeded West Aurora in the 16-team girls basketball tourney.

Senior point guard Jen Hall (two 3-pointers) and junior forward Meg Cerniglia each added 11 points for the Huskies.

Junior forward Ashley Raulli chipped in 6 points and senior guard Corinne Busby had 4 points with 5 steals and 4 assists.

Morgan Harris, a 5-foot-6 sophomore guard, also collected her first varsity points as the Huskies snapped a three-game losing streak.

"Maggie (Hogen) was a constant for us the whole game," said Huskies coach Mary Fendley. "She always does such a nice job on defense so it was nice to see her play so well offensively, too.

"It was nice to get back on winning road (after close losses to Rolling Meadows, Prospect and Glenbrook South). Our defense was really good and Corinne (Busby) had a nice game, too."

West Aurora defeated No. 6 seed Glenbard South 49-45.

"West Aurora is very young but a very talented group," Fendley said. "So we should have our hands full."

Elk Grove 46, Hinsdale Central 39: No. 5 seeded Elk Grove advanced to today's quarterfinals of the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North as junior Diamond Boyd helped lead the way with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Freshman Amber Lindfors enjoyed the best game of her career with 12 points and 9 rebounds while Kelly Naughton chipped in 10 points with 5 assists. Melissa Solorio also handed out 5 assists with 6 points.

Sophomore Taylor Brown and Naughton each had 3-pointers for No. 5 seed Elk Grove (7-4), which faces No. 4 Lyons in today's 6 p.m. quarterfinal.

"They (Lyons) really change up defenses quite a bit," said Grens coach Ryan Kirkorsky. "We'll do a walk-through (today). We really like the fact that we got contributions from a lot of players on (Monday) and hopefully we'll see that again (today)."

Guerin 50, St. Viator 49: Senior Morgan Hess and junior Jennie Horstmann each scored 12 points for St. Viator (10-5, 3-1) in its own Snowflake Tournament in Arlington Heights.

The Lions will face Maine East for third place today at 6 p.m.

Northside Prep 36, Leyden 22: Jeanine Hannoun had a game-high 12 points for Leyden (0-14) in the Snowflake Tournament at St. Viator.

Leyden will face Elmwood Park at 3 p.m.
