Glenbard West bounces back, defeats York

Glenbard West really needed a victory.

The Hilltoppers held off West Suburban Silver girls basketball rival York to win the seventh-place game 37-35 at the Benet/Naperville North Holiday Tournament on Friday night in Naperville.

"We finished the game," said Hilltoppers coach Mike Hofland, whose team lost to WW South on Thursday night 55-15. "I think last night we hit rock bottom and we couldn't go any lower and we did a nice job tonight."

The Hilltoppers (7-8) took a 20-12 lead into halftime and kept the lead the rest of the game. The Dukes narrowed the margin to 2 a few times in the final minutes, but the Hilltoppers answered each time, going 10 of 16 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

"We've been struggling, so it's great to finish with a win before break," Hofland added. "And then we come back and we've got York again the first conference game. I was happy with our performance. Any kind of win is a win."
