Late tax payments burden the rest of us

Taxes are paid to the county. The treasurer in turn delegates money in return to the towns and cities from which the taxes were collected. When there is a delinquent payment the city receives the allotted money minus uncollected funds. The town has a shortfall on its budget. The county raises taxes for next year to cover the shortfall. Your taxes go up accordingly.
