Brent Seabrook: Good it was only a scare

Nobody bounces back from an injury that appears to be serious quicker than Brent Seabrook.

For the fourth time in three seasons, the Blackhawks defenseman shook off an ugly head shot to return to the lineup on Tuesday at Pittsburgh.

Seabrook said he wasn’t knocked unconscious by the hit from behind into the boards from Calgary’s Rene Bourque in the first period on Sunday and could have returned to the game.

“I remember the whole thing,” Seabrook was quoted as saying on the Blackhawks’ website. “I got hit and I heard Bourque say right away he was sorry and I could head Duncs (Duncan Keith) and Tazer (Jonathan Toews). I couldn’t get up so I put my head down and everybody thought I was knocked out.

“At that point it was the doctor’s call. I said I wasn’t out and I felt fine, that I could go back out there, but the doctor couldn’t tell from the video if I was knocked out or if I wasn’t and just pulled me for precautionary reasons.

“It’s good it was only a scare.”

Seabrook was OK with the two-game suspension Bourque received from NHL chief of player safety Brendan Shanahan.

“Shanahan handles that and I feel he does a good job going case by case,” Seabrook said. “He did a good job.”
