Sean McInerney was a terrific athlete and young adult taken from his family and friends all too soon in November of 1990. Sean lost his life on his way home from college in a tragic car accident. Sean was an Alumni of Saint Mary School in Buffalo Grove and Carmel High School. For the past 20 years Saint Mary School Buffalo Grove has held their annual basketball tournament in tribute to Sean and to promote Organ donation. The one thing Sean loved most and excelled in was sports. Upon his death, his heart was donated so someone else would have a chance to live, that's what Sean wanted. This year, celebrating its 20th year, the Sean McInerney Tournament will be held Dec. 26-28. Seven area Catholic grade schools will participate in this year's tournament; from as far north as Wadsworth to Hoffman Estates to Winnetka. All these teams will be vying for the chance to say they won the Sean McInerney Tournament.
