Putting teachers and rest on same plane
Chuck Coletta ends his recent letter about the Teachers Retirement System with this: “Contrary to what Bill thinks, our contributions are not being invested.”
Welcome to the club, Chuck. Since this is the case, and, as you say, the “TRS currently has $34 billion in assets” why don’t we just move all of that money and the teachers into the Social Security system? It would provide a nice chunk of change for SS, and then we’d all be in the same boat; i.e., none of this bickering back and forth.
From what I’ve read and heard over the last umpteen years, we just have to do something to “save” Social Security, and the answer always seems to be, “fund it more, fund it more, fund it more.” Never a word about investing or cutting fraud, etc., so if the same sort of thing is happening with the TRS, I say we may as well consolidate and have all our eggs in one basket. Whatcha think?
