Don’t confuse abortion, health care
Why does Terry Cosgrove, president and CEO of the Planned Parenthood of Illinois political action committee (Personal PAC) jump to the defense of Gov. Quinn (Fence Post, Nov. 21)? Is it because he has already invested over $500,000 of pro-abortion PAC dollars in the election of Quinn? Or is it because the governor appointed him to a salaried and pensioned position on the Illinois Human Rights Commission last spring?
It appears Mr. Cosgrove feels obligated to use half truths and innuendo in his letter in an attempt to discredit Catholic bishops and the Catholic Conference of Illinois. The inability to tell the whole story seems to be a recurring theme for Mr. Cosgrove. You may recall how he desperately concealed the true purpose of the Planned Parenthood abortion center in Aurora from city government in an effort to get the project approved before it could be challenged by city council members or citizens who might oppose an abortion facility in their community. To insinuate that Catholic hospitals do not treat victims of rape with care and compassion is misleading and improper.
A Chinese proverb states it best: “The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names.” Let’s stop confusing women’s health care with abortion. Health care is about healing. Abortion is about the termination of a human life. It is the most sinister of choices as it masquerades as an efficient and reliable solution in an often desperate situation. Healing comes from the knowledge that all human life is a gift of love to this world from God. Let the healing begin today.
