Hersey collects 40,000 cans in food drive

John Hersey High School concluded its annual Food Drive Friday, Nov. 18, assembling and delivering over 40,000 canned goods and other nonperishable items for area people in need, as well as a cash collection of more than $2,500.

Hersey students, staff, and community members all participated in the effort, spearheaded by Service Over Self and Student Council. Hersey organizers are very grateful to Garden Fresh Foods and Route 12 Rental in Arlington Heights for their continued support.

Hersey students and faculty sponsors delivered two truckloads of food to the St. Augustine Center for Indian Affairs in Chicago, and a truckload of food to CEDA Northwest in Mount Prospect, which was empty at this time. In addition, 55 food baskets and gift certificates were also donated. The generosity and kind spirit of the students, staff and community members will help to brighten the holidays for others who have fallen on hard times.
