Two pedestrians killed in Des Plaines in separate accidents
Two pedestrians were killed in two separate motor-vehicle accidents Tuesday, including one that was struck by a school bus with children on board, police said,
At 5:30 a.m., 46-year-old Kimberly Moore of Des Plaines was crossing Oakton Street at Fifth Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle, police said.
“She (the victim) was standing in the crosswalk near the median, bent over, and the vehicle struck her,” Des Plaines Deputy Police Chief Mike Kozak said.
The 32-year-old driver of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu that struck Moore was questioned after the accident, but police said they are not pressing charges at this time.
Later that morning, Des Plaines police responded to the intersection of Lee and Fargo Streets for a crash involving a school bus and a pedestrian.
At 11:30 a.m., a school bus with five children onboard struck 59-year-old Mark Vita of Glen Ellyn as he was crossing Fargo Street, police said.
The bus driver involved in the fatal crash, 54-year-old Augustin Dominguez of Elk Grove Village, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian and is due in court Dec. 28.
None of the children onboard were injured when the bus struck Vita.
Autopsies on both victims are scheduled for Wednesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
