Newborns are hardly independent
Is abortion murder? That is for the lawyers and politicians to decided. Regardless, abortion does end a life. Theodore M. Utchen would call this a potential life and that once a baby emerges from the womb he/she is now a complete, independent person.
Mr. Utchen must not have children or he would never make that statement. Far from independent, the baby must be fed, changed and watched over. He/she can do nothing for him/herself. Left on his/her own, the baby would perish. This dependence continues for many years.
There are thirty-something year-olds out there living in mommy and daddy’s basement, completely dependent on them. On the other side of the coin, there are aborted babies who continue to live after being aborted and are subsequently killed by the abortionists or just thrown into the trash. So much for potential.
Oh, and a quick note to Mr. Utchen and others who try to use clinical terms to dehumanize a child in the womb, “fetus” is a Latin word translated as “baby.”
