Buffalo Grove’s JV team wins Kaneland Scholastic Bowl
Buffalo Grove High School’s Junior Varsity Scholastic Bowl team participated on Nov. 12 in the eighth annual Kaneland High School Freshmen-Sophomore Scholastic Bowl Tournament in Maple Park, with outstanding results.
The BGHS Bison captured the championship by defeating Wheaton-Warrenville High School in the finals match with a score of 295 to its opponent’s total of 235. Other participating high schools included Hinckley Big-Rock, Carmel, host Kaneland, Princeton, St. Patrick and Wheaton Academy.
Buffalo Grove ended the day with seven winning matches, tallying a record of 4-0 in the preliminary morning round, and garnering three additional wins in the afternoon. Team captain Max Farbman qualified for the All Tournament Team with 17 toss-ups.
“I was very impressed with this team’s first showing for the preseason,” commented BGHS coach Chris Karl. “Not only was this tournament earlier than last year, giving us less time to prepare, but over half of the team was not available, due to other conflicts such as IMEA and speech-debate. This is a great start for the JV team and I can’t wait to see how they will grow together over the season and what they can accomplish.”
