Two charged in McHenry attempted murder
Two McHenry men have been charged with attempted murder after beating a man with a machete and shooting him in the chest late Saturday night, police said.
Armondo Ferral-Mujica, 20, of 302 N. Front St., in McHenry, and Orlando Ferral-Mujica, 31, of 4107 W. Lillian St., in McHenry, have been charged with attempted first-degree murder and attempted battery with a firearm after their arrest Saturday evening, said McHenry Deputy Police Chief John Birk.
Birk said police were summoned at 8:22 p.m. to the 3700 block of James Street for a male victim injured during an altercation with two men.
While en route to the area, officers learned the victim had left the area with his girlfriend and was in a vehicle that had stopped at Kane Avenue and Center Street. Officers went to the intersection and learned the victim had received a gunshot wound to the chest, along with severe cuts to his head, neck and hands, Birk said.
The victim was taken to Centegra Hospital — McHenry for emergency surgery, Burk said. The man remains in the hospital, but is listed in stable condition.
Officers determined the victim was attacked by two men in the parking lot on James Street.
The McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team was called in to assist McHenry police investigators.
“This was an isolated incident and no one else other than the people involved in the altercation was at risk,” he said.
Birk would not say what led investigators to the arrest of the two men.
Aside from attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, the two were charged with aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless conduct and unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
According to the criminal complaints both men were involved with shooting and mutilation of the victim with the machete.
Armando Ferral-Mujica was sent to the McHenry County jail and is awaiting a bond hearing. Orlando Ferral-Mujica was treated and admitted to Centegra Hospital — McHenry for a head injury he received during the attack.
The investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
