Craigslist ad leads to Addison armed robbery

Addison police are investigating an armed robbery Friday night on Meadows Boulevard after a man answered an online ad to buy a motorcycle.

Cmdr. Joe Maranowicz said three people met with the suspect in response to a Craigslist ad, thinking they were about to purchase a motorcycle for $4,000. The trio met with the suspect, who then took them to an address on the 600 block of Meadows Boulevard, telling them that’s where they could see the motorcycle, police said.

“There was no motorcycle and they were robbed at gunpoint and their cash was taken,” Maranowicz said.

No one was injured and police are still following leads.

Maranowicz said crimes stemming from Internet ads are on the rise.

“It seems like there have been multiple problems, not just with Craigslist, and there’s always this potential issue with answering an Internet classified ad and bringing large amounts of cash to a location,” he said. “If you’re going to do this, make sure you at least do it in public areas.”
