Senator’s view of pensions one-sided

State Sen. Matt Murphy thinks the public can be easily fooled. He says, “ ... clout-heavy union leaders and other insiders benefit from special deals allowing them to collect six-figure pensions” (Fence Post, Nov. 5). I want to know his real agenda. If he thinks pensions are for “true public servants,” then why didn’t he ensure the state made its required pension payments? Why does he suggest union leaders have caused our pension crisis?

As a high school teacher, I am concerned about politicians who vote for bills that chip away at unions and create class warfare. If Murphy cares about our pensions, he should not stand with the 1 percent who want to eliminate the unions that fight for the working people. To say that there needs to be pension reform and even union reform is one thing, but if I’m supposed to believe that Sen. Murphy is fighting harder than my union to protect my pension, well then, that’s something else.
