Find best cuts on both sides

Since the congressional deficit reduction committee couldn’t agree on how to cut $1.2 trillion from the budget over the next 10 years, wouldn’t it make sense to empower the Democratic side of the committee to find $600 billion in cuts, and the Republican side the same? There had to be some great ideas that got tabled due to ideological differences. This would allow the best of both sides to emerge, and get this country moving again.
