IMEA selects students for honor ensembles

Each year, students from across the northwest suburbs take part in an intense audition to represent their schools in the Illinois Music Educators Association's (IMEA) District 7 Honor Band and Orchestra.

Band auditions were held Oct. 1 at Aptakisic Junior High in Buffalo Grove, and orchestra auditions were held Oct. 4 at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest.

The IMEA Honor Band, Honor Jazz Band, and Honor Orchestra are comprised of the best junior high school musicians in Illinois and selection for these ensembles is a distinctive honor.

The following District 15 students were chosen to participate.

Honor Band

· Carl Sandburg Junior High — eighth-grader Lily Cheong on clarinet.

· Plum Grove Junior High — eighth-graders Julia Cai and Tiffany Chu on flute, Nora Finegan on trombone, and John Kwak on oboe; and seventh-graders Kristine Yim on flute and Natalie Connors on clarinet.

· Walter R. Sundling Junior High — eighth-graders Nate Carlson and Adam Smith on trombone, Charlie Kaye on tuba, and Jessica Lu on flute.

Honor Jazz Band

· Plum Grove Junior High — eighth-grader Noah Voehringer on bass guitar.

· Walter R. Sundling Junior High — eighth-graders Nate Carlson on trombone and Charlie Kaye on bass guitar.

Honor Orchestra

· Carl Sandburg Junior High — eighth-grader Grace Urban on viola; and seventh graders Andres Carrero and Lauren Cardoza on violin.

· Plum Grove Junior High — eighth-graders Nathan Du, Eunice Kim, and Brian Lin on violin, and Josh Kim on viola; and seventh grader Andrew Hwang on violin.*

· Walter R. Sundling Junior High — eighth-graders Rebecca Duran and Patrick Ruan on violin, Sarah Brand on viola, and Charlie Kaye on bass.

· Winston Campus Junior High — eighth-grader Morgan Spevak on viola.
