Batavia football fans enjoy TV spotlight
Batavia football fans showed plenty of school spirit during an NBC5 broadcast Friday morning for the “Prep Destination of the Week” sports segment. And boy, that marching band drum line put on a spectacular performance for “Dance Friday.”
But due to technical problems, viewers didn't get to see all of it.
Engineers had problems getting a signal to work, according to NBC5 traffic and transportation reporter Matt Rodewald, who arranges the broadcasts. He said the station will run the “Dance Friday” portion of the broadcast at noon Friday and on the early-morning newscast Monday. You can also watch it on the NBC5 website, nbcchicago.com.
“My sincerest apologies to all the Batavia fans for our technical problems that persisted throughout our live morning broadcast,” Rodewald said in a prepared statement. “I want to thank the best student section in the Tri-Cities for getting up so early and being so energetic this morning. The pictures online proved the Bulldogs are ready for Saturday's historic matchup. In the end, let's hope this becomes an afterthought to a magical season that will hopefully end in the school's first state championship.”
The Bulldogs, who are undefeated, play a Class 6A semifinal game at home against Prairie Ridge at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $6.
Also on Saturday, Kaneland hosts Montini in Class 5A at 5 p.m., and Aurora Christian hosts Tolono Unity in Class 3A at 5 p.m.
