Scouting Hinsdale South boys basketball
Hinsdale South
Coach: Vince Doran.
Last year: 17-11, 7-5, tied for third in West Suburban Gold; lost 74-45 to Simeon in Class 4A Hinsdale South regional final.
Top players: Brock Benson, sr., C; Phil George, sr., G; Jerry Stoltz, jr., G; Johnnie Jasper, sr., G; Dijon James, sr., F; Justin Ward, jr., G; Matt Reschke, jr., G; Pierre Andresen, jr., F.
Scouting report: Benson, an All-Area pick as a junior, and George return as third-year starters as the Hornets look to build upon last year’s success. Benson, at 6-foot-8, is being recruited by Ivy League schools after averaging 12.2 points and 7.5 rebounds. George, who averaged 13.9 points, was among the area’s top 3-point shooters with 63. While that tandem is as good as any in the competitive Gold, depth is an issue with the Hornets. In the post especially there isn’t much support for Benson. “We really need to stay healthy,” Doran said. Stoltz didn’t get much playing time last year due to injury, but he’s back to add scoring punch to the perimeter. “I think we’ll shoot the ball pretty well,” Doran said. “Hopefully we’ll get some chemistry going.”
