Too bad Cain scandal will do him in

The Cain sexual harassment debacle will by its media presence, botched initial response and recently named victim sink his political future. Sensationalist lawyer Gloria Allred’s opportunism only complicates things.

It’s too bad. The real story of his run for the presidency is that we took him seriously as a businessman and a maverick, who just happened to be black. If nothing else, Barack Obama melted the racial glacier for a person of color to attain the highest office in the land. Obama provided the cultural intervention we needed.

Sadly, Mr. Cain’s past regrettable behavior only perpetuates stereotypes that America is trying to forget about our leaders who while sitting on a wall confuse intimacy with power only to have their great fall. All the king’s men and horses don’t even try to put them back together. How’s Mr. Weiner doing in his recovery from cyber-narcissism?

So it looks like it will be the dapper vanilla Mormon sparring with the incompetent articulate incumbent to occupy Pennsylvania Avenue in 2012. Wouldn’t a Cain versus Obama choice have been culturally better for America?
