Marian Central to play for 3A title
Marian Central Catholic of Woodstock will play for the Class 3A girls volleyball state championship tonight after the Hurricanes shook off a loss in the first set to come back and beat Marian Catholic of Chicago Heights 20-25, 25-18, 25-23 in Friday night’s semifinals at Redbird Arena in Normal.
Marian Central (35-6) will take on Breese Mater Dei (38-3), the defending state champion, in today’s 5:30 p.m. championship match. Mater Dei downed St. Francis Friday in the other semifinal.
Tara Blake, Abby Gilleland and Emma Hussey each had 10 kills for Marian Central in Friday’s win, while Blake and Caitlin Brocker added 13 digs each. Gilleland contributed 25 assists.
This will be Marian Central’s first appearance in a state title match.
