Police: Man approached 13-year-old in West Chicago

West Chicago Police are investigating a suspicious incident involving a 13-year-old girl and an adult man who approached her Monday morning.

The girl was walking northbound on the 1200 block of Elizabeth Street at about 6:35 a.m. when she noticed an unknown man approaching her from about 200 feet away, according to police.

The girl, who was texting on her phone before looking up and noticing the man, told police he sped up after she spotted him.

The girl turned around and walked in the opposite direction and then crossed the street while attempting to unsuccessfully flag down a passing car, according to police.

As she began to run west toward her home, the man yelled “Stop!” The man then took off running south toward Roosevelt Road and was last seen running across Roosevelt, according to police.

Police said the man, who was described as a Hispanic in his mid-20s, standing 5-feet 5-inches tall with a medium build never made contact with the girl never came closer than about 100 feet from her.

The man had a mustache and dark hair, which was short on top with three horizontal lines shaved into each side of his head, according to police. He was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt.
