Wheeling high honored for manufacturing education

Wheeling High School is one of two in the Chicago area recognized for its manufacturing education by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Local Chapter 5 in Chicago, in cooperation with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation.

“This award is a measure of your commitment and passion to keep manufacturing in America and to support the industrial base around you by providing career path alternatives into manufacturing,” Robert Lossi, the chairman of Chapter 5, wrote in his letter to the school’s principal, Lazaro Lopez.

Wheeling received the “Best High School Overall Industrial Machine Shop Program” recognition award for its commitment to integrating Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Project Lead the Way into the overall industrial machine shop program and integration of Computer-Integrated Manufacturing and Computer Numerical Control machining technologies.

In addition, Wheeling’s Industrial Technology Council plays a key role in providing materials, expertise, internships, and employment for those ultimately wanting a career in manufacturing, with or without college. SME Chapter 5 has more than 500 active members in the business of manufacturing engineering.
