Grant helps Schaumburg police mobile outpost
The Schaumburg Police Department has been awarded a $199,481 grant from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency as a result of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency Buffer Zone Protection Program.
The purpose of the program is to help state and local governments protect critical infrastructure and key resources. Woodfield Shopping Center is the number one tourist attraction in Illinois, bringing 27 million visitors to Schaumburg every year.
The police department is currently remodeling a department-owned trailer to be used as a mobile command post for use at special events and for emergency response to critical incidents. Grant funding will be used to buy a generator, multi-band radios and video monitors for the command post, as well as 23 portable radios for use by department supervisors.
