Streamwood police investigate newborn death

Streamwood police are investigating the death of an infant found discarded in the trash can of a public restroom at a local business.

The newborn was found Friday afternoon in the ladies restroom at the Salvation Army store, 1080 S. Barrington Road. The infant was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner is planned.

Streamwood police said the gender of the newborn is not known at this time, and further information is being withheld pending an autopsy report from the Cook County medical examiner’s office on Saturday.
