Stop new taxes on air travel

Congress is at it again.

They seem to spend most of their time looking for ways to increase taxes.

Two newly proposed federal tax increases — a $100 per departure tax and a dramatic increase in passenger security taxes from $2.50 to $7.50 are before Congress.

At a time when the airline industry is hanging on by a thread, another, the 17th, tax that will obviously be passed on to the traveler is outrageous.

Each time they increase the cost of air transportation they preclude a segment of the population from being able to afford to fly.

Ten of thousands of your friends and neighbors work for airlines at O’Hare, Midway and Rockford and many more tens of thousands work at industries that support the airlines.

At some point, the goose that laid the golden egg is going to be picked clean and with it the loss of a lot of jobs. At a time when the unemployment rate is so high, how could any reasonable person think this suggested tax is appropriate?

Please write or call Sens. Kirk and Durbin and your congressman and tell them enough is enough.
