Dominick's in Carpentersville closing in November

Despite improved sales in the past year, the Dominick's store at 2411 Randall Road in Carpentersville will close in mid-November, village officials confirmed Tuesday.

Janice Murphy, the village's economic development and special projects coordinator, said the store had seen a decline in sales since about 2008 before rebounding this year. However, that was not enough and the store will close on Nov. 12, Murphy said.

“More growth was expected and more homes were expected to be built farther west in Kane County,” Murphy said. “But that didn't happen. (The year) 2008 happened, as we know.”

Lauri Sanders, director of public affairs and government relations for Oak Brook-based Dominick's, called the closing “a business decision based on sales.”

No other area stores are slated to close, and the company is working to reassign as many of the 58 employees as possible, Sanders said.

There are Dominick's stores in Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake.

Murphy said the village is actively seeking a new tenant for the building at the corner of Randall and Huntley roads on the village's west side.

“Clearly it is reducing the number of grocery stores we have on the west side,” Murphy said. “We are looking at the possibility of getting another grocery store. We are certainly marketing the space to get a tenant in as soon as possible.”
