Hersey debaters bring home trophy from Dundee Crown Invite

John Hersey High School congressional debaters brought home a second-place team trophy from the Dundee-Crown High School Invitational Debate Tournament in Carpentersville on Oct. 15, just missing first place by seven-tenths of a point.

Leading the Hersey Huskies was sophomore Ben Goldberg, who again won two individual trophies for presiding and speaking. Junior Vivek Shah earned a Critics Choice award for his first trophy of the season. Sophomore Mike Feltes won first-place speaker, also his first award of the season. Sophomore Melanie Cohodes was named second-place speaker. Hersey also received a second place in the best legislation category.

“Dundee was a breakout experience and a great learning experience for many of us,” said Feltes.

Head coach Jack Stanislaw commented, “The young Huskies are making good progress toward their season goals.”

Debate goes into action again on Nov. 12, at St. Charles High School.
