CASA Kane County to offer conference

Submitted by CASA Kane County

CASA Kane County, a local nonprofit that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court, is hosting a one-day conference titled “Casebuilding to Permanence in the Child Welfare System” Friday, Oct. 28, at Piper’s Banquets in Aurora.

The conference, which is open to the public, will feature child welfare attorney Jane Thompson and special guest Adam Robe, who has written a series of children’s stories designed to help foster children adjust to the many changes in their lives. Robe will address the emotional impact of foster care.

Conference attendees will learn: core values, laws, and philosophy of the child welfare system; evaluating possible permanency options; and understanding grief and loss and attachment problems of foster children.

Keynote speaker Jane Thompson has served as a child welfare attorney with the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, on the North Carolina Supreme Court Permanent Families Task Force, and helped rewrite North Carolina’s adoption law. She has been a presenter at National CASA Conferences since 1992.

Adam Robe, who has a master’s degree in social work, is a former foster child and adoptee. He has worked in social work and as a CASA volunteer.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include continental breakfast and lunch. CEU credits are available. The cost is $50. Online registration is available at www.casakanecounty.org or by calling (630) 232-4484.
