Lombard Veterans' Day ceremony to be held Nov. 11

LOMBARD, Illinois— Veterans' Day will be honored in Lombard with a ceremony held on November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Volunteer Plaza located at the southwest corner of Main Street and St. Charles Road.

Celebrated also as Armistice Day, Veterans' Day is a day to remember and honor more than 24 million military soldiers in the United States. The American Legion Post 391, the VFW Post 5815 and the Village of Lombard are partnering together to plan the ceremony that falls on November 11, 2011. Lombard Village President Bill Mueller will open the ceremony and the Lombard Fire Department's chaplain Brother Thomas Harding, FSC, of Montini Catholic High School will give the invocation.

Besides celebrating and honoring veterans who have and are continuing to serve the country, Committee Chair VFW 5815 Post Commander, George Miller along with Commander of American Legion Post 391 Anthony Maroney will take a moment of recognition during the ceremony to remember the respected veterans of their posts who have recently passed away. “We have said farewell to friends, brothers and sisters in the past months and want to acknowledge and celebrate their love and support of our nation,” said Miller.

In an effort to remember the outstanding courage and commitment to freedom made by our veterans, Mueller invites all residents, especially local scout troops and families to join with him, the American Legion and the VFW to say “thank you” to our veterans who have given and continue to give so much for the freedom that we enjoy each day in our great country. Public parking is available in the municipal lot behind Morning Star Books and Gifts in downtown Lombard or any commuter lot as well as nearby parking. For residents who are unable to attend the ceremony, Mueller encourages them to stop whatever they are doing at 11 a.m. on Veterans' Day to remember veterans in a special way at that time.

Scout troops of all kinds are invited to attend. Anyone interested in participating, or with questions regarding the event, please contact Kate Burke, Communications Specialist, at (630) 620-3083.
