Semitrailer overturns near Woodfield
The driver of a semitrailer truck was being treated for cuts to his left arm Saturday after his vehicle tipped on its left side and slid into a guardrail at the Addams Tollway and Route 53 near Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg.
The man, whose identify authorities have not yet released, was driving east on I-90 about 8:07 a.m. when he attempted to exit on a ramp to southbound Route 53, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Carlita Joe said.
Joe said the driver took the ramp too quickly, causing the cab and trailer to flip on its side and slide into the rail. The truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of flour, Joe said, but the load did not spill.
The accident slowed traffic in the area until the truck was removed shortly before noon, Joe said.
The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises, but Joe said his injuries are not life-threatening.
State police are continuing to investigate. No citations were issued as of Saturday morning.
