More special teams honors for Bears’ Hester
Devin Hester was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording 134 return yards – including a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown at Soldier Field for the Bears against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday night.
Hester’s touchdown was the 16th kick return score of his career (11 punt, five kickoff), which extended his NFL career record. The touchdown was the 17th return touchdown (11 punt, five kickoff, one missed field goal) of his career, tied for second most in NFL history with defensive back Rod Woodson, trailing defensive back Deion Sanders (19). Hester has reached that mark in 82 games while Woodson played in 238 and Sanders 188. Both Woodson and Sanders are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Hester added 91 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown on 5 receptions against the Vikings, and also returned a punt 27 yards.
This week’s honor marks the 11th Special Teams Player of the Week award for the former University of Miami star, and his second of the season. Hester joins Jerry Rice (13), Barry Sanders (11), LaDainian Tomlinson (11), John Carney (13), Jason Hanson (11) and Adam Vinatieri (13) as the only non-QBs to win 11 Player of the Week Awards in their career.
