Dist. 214 parenting classes returns

The second session of District 214’s fall lecture and discussion series, “What Every Parent Should Know,” will be offered on Tuesdays, Oct. 25, Nov. 1 and Nov. 8, from 7-9 p.m. at John Hersey High School, 1900 E. Thomas St. in Arlington Heights.

Raising children is a formidable task that takes patience, understanding and perseverance. District 214 is committed to not only educating students, but also helping parents navigate and respond appropriately to their children’s growth and development. These sessions will help parents anticipate and prevent problems proactively, develop mutually respectful relationships, explore fair discipline, maintain effective communication, and use productive problem-solving methods with their children.

Bob Leece, student assistance coordinator at Buffalo Grove High School, and Martha Messer, school nurse at John Hersey High School, have trained thousands of parents over the past 15 years. Parents have always responded to these sessions with extremely positive comments such as: “A life-changing experience for me as a parent;” “I’ve taken this class twice and it has made a difference in me which has made a huge difference in my home”; “This program has helped me more in a few sessions than therapy did in six months”; “I’ve learned practical skills that actually work”; and “This class should be mandatory for all parents.”

The registration fee is $10 per person (cash or check made payable to John Hersey High School), due at the first lecture. In order to provide the best possible environment, registration is limited to 150 parents per session. Register by contacting Paula Volpe at paula.volpe@d214.org or (847) 718-4947.
