St. Alphonsus students take on stock market

St. Alphonsus Liguori School, Prospect Heights, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students recently participated in a three-session class on the stock market and investing. Students formed teams to invest a hypothetical $150,000 in a portfolio of three to 30 stocks. Team rankings were posted from the onset of the project to its conclusion.

In addition to discussing risks associated with investing in the market, students learned about money management, diversification, compounding investments, credit card debt and 10 principals to follow for successful investing.

The top three teams received special prizes, but all the students were winners for having participated in these informative and enjoyable classes.
